The archipelago of Zanzibar consists of a series of small tropical islands off the coast of Tanzania in the southern waters of the Indian Ocean. The capital of Zanzibar is ‘the’ Stone Town. Zanzibar archipelago consists of two main islands – Unguja (commonly known simply as ‘Zanzibar’) and Pemba. The origin of the name is thought to have Persian or Arabic origin. In Arabic the name is thought to come from the words ‘Zayn Z’al Barr’, meaning ‘Fair Is This Land’. There are beautiful beaches in Zanzibar – the beach locations include Nungwi and Kendwa [northern tip of Unguja], Matemwe [mid-south east], Kiwengwa [eastern coast], Paje and Uroa. Samaki Lodge is a new, small-scale boutique hotel, well appreciated for its fabulous relaxed atmosphere. Perched on the beautiful beach of Uroa on the east coast of Zanzibar, 35 km from the international airport, the hotel is intimately composed of thirty rooms. The furnishing, though elegant, maintains the style and charm of yesteryear Zanzibar.
Because it’s part of the same company as Palumbo Reef, basically Samaki Lodge is located next to the resort of Palumbo Reef in the center of the eastern coast of the island, next to Kiwengwa, only 35 kilometers away far from the airport, easily reachable with a 40-minute drive on paved roads. With a short walk from the lodge, you can reach Uroa, a quaint fishing village of generous and hospital people. The lodge is built right on the edge of Uroa Beach. You’ll be fascinated by the different hues the Indian Ocean turns and by the white beach where you can take long relaxing walks and admire the sand-banks during low tide. The beach is equipped with local handcrafted beach chairs, beach umbrellas and plush towels (upon deposit).
All thirty rooms are fitted with a selection of traditional furniture, including sumptuous Swahili beds, draped with gauzy netting and adorned daily with fresh cut exotic flowers. Every room also contains the necessary comforts of an en suite bathroom, ceiling fan, air-conditioning, blow dryer and safe. Six deluxe rooms also include a television and refrigerator. The hotel also contains facilities such as a Boutique, and a Spa.
There is an ocean view restaurant with buffet service, where you can taste both local and Italian dishes, like fresh pasta, grilled seafood, delectable desserts and abundant tropical fruits. There is a Zanzibar-style Swahili dinner one once a week. A private romantic lobster dinner is also available at an extra charge. There’s also another relaxing area by the pool and another bar.
The main restaurant offers either a buffet or à la carte service, with choices of both traditional Swahili and Italian dishes. At every meal, a wide selection of meat, catch-of-the-day fish and vegetarian options. A sampling of delectable home style desserts and exotic, fresh local fruit is always available. Special romantic dinners can be arranged at poolside. Located just above the main restaurant is the lounge zone. In this cosy area, invite yourself to gaze out over the Indian Ocean and the coral reef.
The meeting point of the resort is the hall, under the spectacular giant makuti roof, where you can find the reception, all the offices, the information desk, the boutique and the main bar in front of the lounge lobby, dedicated to reading, playing cards and games, playing pool, tennis table and table soccer.
Towels are available at poolside and on the beach (upon deposit).
In all the common areas, wi-fi connection is available.
An extra charge is required for the use of the boutique, spa, gym, laundry, phone and Internet. We accept all the main credit cards (commission applied).
Our Staff organises a few different activities at scheduled times of the day. There are also different traditional shows every night.
Thanks to the ample space available on the beach, a few activities are organised.
You can engage in kite-surfing, beach volley, soccer, bowling and beach tennis.
There is also a diving centre, next to the Resort. It’s also possible to rent deep-sea fishing boats.
Enjoy refreshments from the poolside bar and restaurant. The hotel is just footsteps away from a private white sand beach, ideal for getting the perfect tan, or just relaxing in the warm African sunlight stretched out on handcrafted beach chairs under Zanzibari beach umbrellas.
