Historic attractions in Side
Pay attention to the Arc de Triumph and the fountain of the Vespasian Emperor. These were preserved from the Roman period, as well as the theatre which was a complex construction supported by the arcades. You can see here also the two temples dedicated to Athens and Apollo.
Continue with Aspendos, a theatre built in 167 BC with 40 rows of marble banks, raised on a hill. Up to 15000 people could stay to watch the shows. This Hellenistic theatre was built during the reign of Marcus Aurelius and was dedicated to the gods. The construction was made by two brothers and is a gift made to the city, until this time being extremely well preserved and still functional.
Look for the monumental fountain located opposite the main gate and outside the city’s citadel. Currently, the marble has lost its original grandeur. Unfortunately the drawings and statues are no longer visible and the top of the fountain was also destroyed. But you can still admire its remains. The water comes to the fountain through a huge pipe.
Apollo’s Temple can be found near the old harbour. It has 6 Corinthian columns in front and back and 11 columns in the same style on one side and the other. The temple dates back to the 2nd century BC.

The ancient streets are bordered by colonnades and carefully restored. This adds a special charm to the city walks.
Visit the modern city that offers all the facilities of a holiday resort. Relax also on the splendid beaches of ancient antique sandy seashore.
Don’t miss the streets and neighbourhoods with columns. Start from the main gate, with one going to the south and another going to the southwest where the city centre is. The column streets have a perfect underground sewer system.
