Historic attractions in Rome

Don’t miss the Colosseum also known as The Flavian Amphitheatre. For example it is the best-preserved monuments of ancient Rome and the largest amphitheatre in the world. Built between 72 and 80 BC, this place hosted the famous bloody spectacles between gladiators and recalls other event tragedies, such as the persecution of Christians.

Visit the Pantheon a temple dedicated to the gods of Roman civilisation. Above all today, the Pantheon houses the tombs of the first two kings of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I. Inside is an altar and even today liturgy is celebrated here. It is the best preserved Roman building and the most important old building in the world with its original intact roof.

Spend one day in the St. Peter’s Square and Basilica. This is the papal enclave inside Rome. For example, both the square and the basilica are named after Saint Peter, an apostle of Jesus and the first Catholic Pope. This square is the result of many centuries of work. St. Peter’s Basilica is one of the main tourist attractions for any visitor to Rome.

Buy your tickets for the Roman Forum. Because this consists of spaces occupied by ancient ruins, monuments and remnants of Roman historical buildings, being the centre of Roman life. Few sites are so filled with a sense of history as the Roman Forum, where, for many centuries, the fate of Europe was decided.

Walk in Castel Sant’Angelo known as Hadrian’s Tomb. This building was built as a mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian and was later transformed into a castle. It is said that here are the ash urns of the most important kings of Rome. The castle had a very rich history and is now turned into a museum that tells all these stories.

Other attractions in Rome

Don’t miss Fontana di Trevi the most famous and probably the most beautiful fountains in the entire city of Rome. This impressive monument dominates the small Trevi market located in the Quirinale neighbourhood. For example, the legend says that whoever is throwing a penny here, will return to Rome. In reality, the money is gathered at night and donated to the city.

Piazza Venezia – Altare della Patria is known also as the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II. Firstly, it is a monument built in the honour of Victor Emmanuel, the first king of a unified Italy. Secondly, Piazza Venezia is the place where Via del Corso ends. Around this market there are many unique, romantic sights, each with its own story.

How to travel in Rome

In Rome, we recommend walking a lot on foot. However, if you want to get as quickly as possible from one part of the city to the other, you have the following options:

Travel by bus as the most convenient and economic way of getting around Rome. Buses run 24 hours a day and cover the entire city. The main public transport operator is Rome ATAC.

Choose the underground, with 2 main lines, A (orange) and B (blue), which meet at Termini. On line A, you reach Fontana di Trevi, Piazza di Sapgna and the Vatican and line B leads to the Colosseum.

Have fun and travel by bicycle another way to go through the medieval alleys and the small squares of Rome. In the centre of ancient Rome, there are numerous bicycle paths that carry you through the traffic.

By car we don’ t really recommend. All roads lead to Rome, but we do not think you would like to go around here by car. You will want to get rid of the rented car as soon as possible, or to leave your car in a garage because of the infernal traffic.

Choose a taxi. There are several taxis stands for you. Some of the most popular ones are located at Termini Station, Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza Venezia, Largo Argentina, Piazza delle Cinque Lune (near Piazza Navona), Piazza Barberini and Via Boncompagni (near Via Veneto).
