Kitzbühel, a lovely medieval town, is one of the largest and best-known winter sport resorts in Austria. Find it in a lovely valley at the foot of the Kitzbüheler Horn. Firstly, you must know that skiing in this dream destination is a tradition for over 125 years. Secondly, the skiing area is extensive, stretching across the states of Tirol and Salzburg.
For example, if you love skiing, you can choose between 57 cable cars or chairlifts to take you up to the snow-covered mountains 2000 metres above the sea level. In addition, there are a total of 230 kilometres of slopes covering all levels of difficulty. Try from easy and moderate slopes to difficult and more challenging pistes. However, despite the great slopes and a beautiful base, this world-class destination has one disadvantage – it has a low altitude.
Ski activities in Kitzbühel
Skiing in Kitzbühel Austria offers an area which is spread over 2 mountain sides. Therefore, the majority of the ski area is located up the Hahnenkamm, where you can ski all the way down to Kirchberg and Aschau. The second ski mountain is the Kitzbüheler Horn which only has a handful of pistes, but it is quieter making it a brilliant beginner ski area. Above all, you have here 185 km of pistes spread across the mountains plus 41 km of ski routes and 4 km of special areas (snow parks, fun slopes, etc). In short, you have lots of options to choose from.
Practice cross-country skiing on 625 km of prepared classic cross-country ski trails of all difficulties, with high altitude and lit night ski trails. For example, the excellently trained cross-country ski instructors will happily introduce you to the sport and in the professional cross-country ski shops.
Other winter activities
Tobogganing can be practised at Gaisberg in Kirchberg which is the only one in the vicinity situated on natural slopes. Thanks to floodlighting it is fully operational at night. So, if you are not exhausted by your daily exercises, try the illuminated tobogganing and the 4-seater chairlift will inspire you to make multiple runs.
Ice skating on the new ice rink in Kitzbühel offers a large area designed to please any requirements you may have in regards with this sport. If you prefer the outdoor rink, there is also a 600 square meter rink on offer.

Swimming in Schwarzsee Lake between Kitzbühel and Reith is one of the most beautiful bathing lakes in the Alps. It is also possible to swim at the moor pool at the Gieringer Weiher, the Badwelt Aquarena, Kitzbühel’s indoor swimming pool and the forest swimming pool in Jochberg. You will have plenty places of bathing to choose from.
