Ski activities in Cortina d’Ampezzo
Beginners Skiing is practised in the Socrepes area with wonderful nursery slopes. Above all, it is one of the best beginner’s areas in the Dolomites with some great slopes.
Intermediate skiing is practised at Tofana. The runs are short, but great for cruising. You will like to come here during winter as the scenery is breathtaking and this area normally has the best snow.
Advanced skiing can be enjoyed at Lagazuoi Cinque Torri. This is the ‘hidden valley’ red run from the Passo Falzarego cable-car. Moreover, you have to try also the famous Sella Ronda.
The Fiames Nordic Ski Centre is the hub for cross country skiing in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Therefore, it offers you circuits of various lengths and difficulties. You can find here also ski rental, ski schools and a snack bar. Enthusiasts and athletes will find well maintained tracks that meet anyone demands in the beautiful scenery of the Dolomiti d’Ampezzo Natural Park. Above all, one of the key attractions is the 30 km long route along the former dolomite railway. This connects Cortina with Dobbiaco which is considered one of the most beautiful Nordic Ski routes in the Dolomites.
Other winter activities in Cortina d’Ampezzo
Winter walking and snowshoeing in Cortina d’Ampezzo is the best place for these activities. It’s difficult to imagine a better mountain landscape for walking in winter (and summer) with numerous mountain refuges for leisurely lunches. You don’t have to forget to enjoy the spectacular Dolomite views by daylight or moonlight. Above all, especially “Enrosadira”, the enchanted time before sunset when the peaks are tinged with red reflections.
Ice skating and curling can be practised at the Olympic Ice Stadium has been fully renovated and is now a covered indoor ice stadium open to the public for ice skating in winter and summer and with instruction available for those who need it.
Tobogganing can be tried at Guargne which is served by the Mietres chairlift and snow-bob toboggans available for hire at the base station. Moreover, a number of mountain refuges organise moonlit toboggan descents after-dinner.
Snow kiting is an alternative to more conventional forms of skiing or boarding. Thrill seekers can experience being pulled along on skis or a board by wind-powered snow kite. Adventure activities in Cortina d’Ampezzo
Mountain bike routs offer many spectacular itineraries for every type of MTB enthusiasts, from scenic routes at altitude, to different excursions. These routs will take you in lush meadows and mountain huts. Other routes and challenging tours will require from you a good level of fitness.
