Introduction and activities

Budapest is the capital of Hungary. The city is located on both banks of the Danube. Firstly, in the eastern part it lies Pesta. Secondly, on the west is Buda. The city is considered to be one of the most beautiful European capitals and rightly so. The first historical signs of this area date back to the Stone Age. The city itself formed only in 1872. Moreover, Budapest attracts over 20 million visitors annually, because of its countless historic sites, museums and art galleries.

Firstly, Budapest is known worldwide for the special architecture of historical buildings. Secondly is famous for the beauty of urban and river landscapes and for the thermal waters and the SPA. Thirdly, Budapest is famous not only for the monuments reflecting its own 1,000-year-old culture, but also for the relics of others who settled here. Most importantly, remains from both Roman occupation and much later ruled by the Turks can still be seen in the city. The union with Austria has a particular influence on the city’s form and style.

Historical attractions in Budapest

Castle Hill is home for the most important medieval monuments and museums in Budapest. Therefore, the most impressive structure here is the Buda Castle, a 200-room palace dating back to the 18th century. Like most buildings in this city, you can certainly see the castle gorgeously illuminated at night if you take an evening walk around.

Fisherman’s Bastion is a terrace in neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque styles. It was built between 1895 and 1902 specifically to act as a panoramic viewing platform across the Danube, Margaret Island and Pest. On the other hand, Fisherman’s Bastion looks like a medieval monument. In short, you can come at sunset to have a particularly beautiful view of the city.

Heroe’s Square is among the most interesting attractions with the Millennium Monument, a 36-meter column at the top of which is the Gabriel Archangel Statue. On both sides of the monument you can see a series of colonnades in a semicircle. But, among the columns are the statues of the Hungarian rulers.

Other attractions in Budapest

The Hungarian National Museum founded in 1802, is the national museum for the history, art and archaeology of Hungary. The gardens outside of the museum are considered to be a popular meeting spot and are popular during the summer months.

The Chain Bridge is one of the best-known landmarks of Budapest which connects Buda and Pesta. It was inaugurated in 1849, immediately after the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. Most importantly, it was the first permanent bridge in the Hungarian capital. On the other hand, the Chain Bridge at the time of inauguration was one of the largest in the world with a length of 202 meters. Take a walk on it and admire the beautiful Danube river.

Gellért Baths and Spa is one of the most famous thermal spa baths in Europe. Also is one of the leading natural hot spring spa baths in Budapest. It includes an open-air pool, an effervescent swimming pool, a Finnish sauna and a range of other saunas and plunge pools. Opened in 1918, offers medicinal water treatments using the same deep underground springs.

The Parliament was designed and built in the Gothic Revival style. It is one of the largest buildings in Hungary and is home to hundreds of parliamentary offices. The building has 691 rooms and not less than 19 kilometres of corridors and stairs. You can make an official tour of  the Parliament, which lasts about 45 minutes and includes a large part of these rooms. You have also the opportunity to admire the beautiful jewels of the Hungarian crown.
