Introduction
Alpbach is one of Austria’s most picturesque villages and a traditional winter wonderland. You must know that the ski slopes in Alpbach area are among the most attractive in the Alps. These slopes have different difficulties for all winter sports lovers. You will find lower, easier options for beginners and intermediates, but also black-rated runs and off-piste areas to keep more advanced skiers content.
Alpbach in Austria has a scenic walk, where you can enjoy gentle strolls through the green meadows. On the other hand you can benefit of mountain trails with amazing views. Walk on the main street lined with handsome wooden farmhouses. Or take one of the three gondolas. The Pöglbahn and Wiedersbergerhornbahn are for the Alpbachtal side. But, the gondola up to the Schatzberg is for the highest peak on the Wildschönau side at 1898 m. There is something for everyone. So what are you waiting for?
Winter activities and attractions
Skiing: Alpbach is one of the tenth largest skiing areas in the Tyrol. The village offers you an extensive ski area with lengthy intermediate level runs. Alpbach’s skiing is largely centred on the wooded Wiedersberger Horn Mountain. You can access it by a gondola lift that is a four minute bus journey from the village at Achenwirt.
Cross-country skiing: If you are a cross-country skier, Alpbach area offers a mix of classic and skating trails including 21 km in Aplbach itself. Choose one of the two classic trails (21 km) in the immediate vicinity of Alpbach. But at your convenience is also a trail at Reith im Alpbachtal (5 km) and both classic (6 km) and skating (4 km) trails in Inneralpbach for more advanced cross-country skiers.
Winter walking: Alpbach is a perfect destination for you if you love hiking all year round. It has 24 defined walking trails in the Alpbachtal and Seenland totalling 120 km. From these, 50 km are in Alpbach, 40 km in Reith and 30 km in the Inntal valley and around Kransach. You can enjoy walks between 1 and 4 hours duration.
Tobogganing: There are three toboggan runs: 4 km long Bischhofer toboggan run, floodlit at night with Almdisco and traditional music at the Bischoferalm. The 5 km long Faulbaumgartenalm toboggan run in Inneralbach and the more challenging 6 km long Reitherkogl toboggan run from the top of the Reitherkogl gondola to the Hub chapel on the outskirts of Reith.
Snowshoeing: In total there are about 7 snowshoe trails for you to discover within the region of Alpbach. In short, it will give you fascinating insight into the magical winter landscape and is a great way to get out in the fresh alpine air.
Summer activities and attractions
Mountain biking: You can go on 800 kilometres, 32 stages and various side routes around Alpbach. The most extensive round in the Alps may be combined with various side routes. Most importantly, it can be lengthened or shortened exactly according to your abilities or desire.
Water sports let you combine the experience of nature and adventure in the most exciting way. Discover the ravines, gorges and water-paths of the Brandenberg River. Here you can go for pipe-riding, kayaking and rafting. For those of you looking for the special kick, white water swimming in the Kaiserklamm is the ideal option.
Hiking enthusiasts will be delighted by the “Kaiserhaus Rumpfalm Tour”. Starting at the Kaiserhaus you are going through the breath-taking Kaiser gorge via the Trauersteg to the Rumpfalm, where you can try some real local specialities.
Lauserland is an adventure playground in Alpbach. Combine here fun, excitement and a wonderful views. Why not trying the double slides, trampoline, robe slide, wooden zoo or the pump fountain? Or maybe the water stream to damp up, the water wheel, the pond, the balancing stones and much more.
