Introduction and activities
Spain is a dream country, a territory that surprises with unique structures, amazing cities and breath-taking scenery. However, many regions in Spain have remained unknown and Almeria is one of them. Firstly, you must know that this town is located in Andalusia region, right on the Mediterranean Sea. Secondly, that this is the capital and at the same time, the largest city of the province with the same name.
Therefore, tourists visit Almeria for many reasons. The beaches and the blue waters of the sea are the main attractions here. Above all, you can benefit of them to the latest standards. Tourists can enjoy long days on the fine sand and many other activities. Above all, Almeria is a complex holiday destination which includes the charm of the sea and the beauty of a metropolis in the true sense of the word. Sounds good? So what are you waiting for? Alcazaba of Almeria
Conjunto Monumental de la Alcazaba de Almería is located on a solitary hill overlooking the town and the bay of Almería. Together with the walls of the river basin and the Cerro de San Cristóbal, this is one of the most impressive medieval fortresses in Andalusia. You can see the present structure that is the result of its historical evolution and the many alterations made to it over the centuries. It was declared a Historical-Artistic Monument and National Artistic Treasure in 1933.
The Alcazaba of Almeria has a high position above the city centre and we highly recommend it as a historical attraction. Therefore, you can see the castle from any part of the city and it is the biggest citadel built by the Arabs in Spain. It has three walls, with one of the three built by the Catholic Monarchs. You must know that it was a royal residence. Today, you can see all its rooms and its mosque, converted into a church since the end of the XV century. However, you can use only one entrance, that is almost invisible due to the enormous walls. Above all, when you reach the top of the castle, you can enjoy marvellous views of the city and the port.
Attractions of Almeria
Almeria Museum is specialised in the Bronze Age and its collection includes items from the Middle Palaeolithic Era to the present day. You must know that most items come from archaeological sites. On the other hand, Almería Museum features an extensive collection of pottery, prehistoric weapons and popular garments from the past.
The Monastery of the virgin of the Saliente is a monument of artistic and historical importance. You will find it located in the north part of Albox in Spain. It houses the image of the virgin of the Saliente. In short, this is an important destination for an annual pilgrimage in September.
Beaches of Almeria
The Monsul Beach is mainly visited by tourists with families. You will find it situated in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata. Firstly, one of its most famous features is a lava formation right in the middle of its shores, where you can find shelter from the hot sun. Secondly, it has fine sand and it is free of slopes. The only inconvenience might be the absence of the facilities. In short, the beach of Monsul is the Natural Park’s most famous beach. You must know for instance that here was shot the film series “Indiana Jones“.
